L. T. Coody

April 4, 1914 — September 1, 2010

L. T. Coody, 96, of Valdosta died Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at his home after short illness. He was born in Clyattville on April 4, 1914 to the late Richard and Mattie Zipperer Coody and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Coody was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and a retired farmer. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, served with the 609th Tank Destroyer Battalion under General George Patton and in the Battle of the Bulge and during the invasion of Utah Beach. Mr. Coody served as Justice of the Peace in Clyattville from 1974-1978 and served on the Board of Directors for Colquitt EMC for twelve years. He was a charter member of the Rocky Knights Hunting Club and helped organize and was elected as the first chairman in 1963 of the ASCS Clyattville Chapter.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Coody, two sons and a daughter in law, Steve and Tricia Coody, Ray Coody, daughter, Jan Coody Scaggs all of Valdosta, 9-grandchildren, Melissa Rentz, Michael Coody, Lori Coody Gregory, Steven Coody, Chris Coody, Tia Coody, Katie Scaggs, Corey Scaggs and Cody Scaggs, 8-great grandchildren, three sisters, Lavinia Hammock, Maxine Cothron and Mary Foster all of Valdosta, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Mike Coody and 11 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Friday, September 3, 2010 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Jay Watkins, Rev. Mollie Danner and Rev. Fred Foster officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
