Katina V. Balanis, 85, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at Brooks County Hospital in Quitman. Born on March 24, 1922 in Athens, Greece, she had made her home in Valdosta since 1956. Mrs. Balanis was well known as the owner of Nicky’s Restaurant for 22 years. She was a member of the Holy Mother of God Greek Orthodox Church in Tallahassee.

Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Nicky and Leanne Balanis of Valdosta; grandsons, Nicholas Balanis and his fiancee, Danielle Bloodworth of Birmingham, Alabama, and Nathaniel Balanis of Valdosta; three sisters of Athens, Greece and numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband, Jim Balanis, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Father Alexander Chetsas officiating. Interment will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
