Julian R. Downing

Julian R. Downing, 84, of Valdosta, died Friday, April 15, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Cook County, GA on October 25, 1926. Mr. Downing was a heavy equipment operator and enjoyed operating his crane during his working days. He was a Baptist and served his country in the United States Army. Mr. Downing enjoyed riding his golf cart on his seventeen acres, loved hunting with his grandson, T. J. and enjoyed fishing with his wife of sixty three years until his health declined. He loved his family and friends.

Mr. Downing is survived by his wife, Thelma B. Downing of Valdosta, two daughters and sons in law, Dianne and Thomas Swails of Valdosta, Joyce and Robert Hardee of Pinetta, FL, three grandchildren, T. J. Swails and his wife, Amy, Sharon Hardee, Jennifer Gosseck and her husband, Joseph, five great grandchildren, Jessica Rigdon, Katherine Rigdon, Roxanne Gosseck, Junior Gosseck and Cameron Swails and one great great grandson, Braden McMillan. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Downing, his son, Jimmy R. Downing and his mother, Mary Adams.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 17, 2011 at three p. m. at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Park with Brother Sammy Reaves and Mr. Gerald Poole officiating. Burial will follow in Lake Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from four until six p. m. Saturday at the funeral home.
