Joyce Eade Samaras

Joyce Eade Samaras, 99, passed away Saturday September 12, 2020 at her home. She was born on July 19, 1921 in Colchester, England to the late Walter James and Mary Eleanor Dannett Eade. In 1939, at the age of 21, Joyce was drafted for the Auxiliary Territorial Service Army during WWII. She was responsible for plotting out coordinates on maps received via telephone. During her time in the service, she became ill and was sent home to recover. On the journey home she met Michael Samaras, a soldier for the US Army. The two married a year later, and in 1946 moved to the United States where they settled down and raised a family. She was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her sons and daughter in law, John and Betty Samaras of Valdosta, GA, and George Samaras of Inverness, FL; grandchildren, Roni and Richie Sutton of Montvale, VA, Mike and Ann Samaras, of Valdosta, and Lisa Bobbitt, of Lancaster, SC; great grandchildren, Ashlie and Ryan McWaters, Lucas Sutton, Shayla and Lee Green, Elena Bobbitt, Eric Sutton, Taylor and Aaron Nix, Kara Bobbitt, Josh Sutton, Trey Bobbitt, and Michael Samaras; and three great great grandchildren, Nate McWaters, Cole Nix, Dixon Green. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Michael George Samaras, a sister, Peggy Eade, and a great grandson in law, Ben Garcia.
It was Joyce’s wish to be cremated. There will be a visitation on Friday, September 18, 2020 from 4 – 6 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. There will be a memorial service planned at a later date. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com. Carson McLane.
