Joseph Paul Calderon

Joseph Paul Calderon, 65, of Valdosta, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at South Georgia Medical Center. Born in New York, New York, on January 24, 1950, he was the son of Catherine Morales Calderon and the late Joseph Calderon. He attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice, served with the Army National Guard and was a police administrator for the New York City Police Department for 35 years. Mr. Calderon was a Union Representative for CWA 1180. Dedicated to serving the "underdogs" in life, he believed in the fight for justice. A Catholic and a Mason, he was a kind and openhearted man and he loved to barbeque.

Mr. Calderon is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sylvia Calderon of Valdosta; his mother, Catherine Calderon of Ocala, Florida; brother, David Calderon of Ocala, Florida; daughters, LeDiana Harrison of Flushing, New York, Tammy Hobot of Hempstead, New York, Catherine Calderon of Valdosta; sons, Alfred Hobot of Far Rockaway, Christopher Hobot of Springfield Gardens, New York, Paul Joseph Calderon of Valdosta; grandchildren, Tiffany Harrison of Brooklyn, New York, Dennis White of Hempstead, New York; Ebonie White of the Bronx, New York, Jasmine Wilkerson of New York, New York, Mecca Wango of Hempstead, New York, Jasmine Pace of Miami, Florida, Sylvia Hobot of Hempstead, New York; seven great grandchildren; sisters in law, Myrtia Rosado of Poughkeepsie, New York, Ileana Hobot of New York, New York, Cynthia LaMont of Ozone Park, New York; brother in law, Jackie LaMont of Ozone Park, New York; an aunt, Mercedes "Pura" Brown of Hollis, New York. Three nieces, Cyleana Walker of Phenix City, Alabama, Jacklyn LaMont of Duluth, Georgia and Alexandria LaMont of Atlanta, Georgia; and one nephew, Derek Mitchell of Dannemora, New York.

In accordance with Mr. Calderon's wishes there will be no formal services. A private memorial for family and close friends will be held at a later date. Condolences to the family may be online at www.mclanecares.com.
