Joseph Duffy Mccartney

March 20, 1941 — April 6, 2013

Joseph Duffy McCartney passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2013. Joe was born on March 21, 1941 in Newark, NJ to William Michael and Rita Duffy McCartney. A Jersey boy through and through, Joe grew up in Lyndhurst and later lived in Midland Park, NJ before retiring in 2005 to Lake Park, GA. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Margie McCartney, sister, Maureen Dabeck, and brother, Michael McCartney. Joe was Uncle Joe to many lucky children; 13 nieces and nephews, Larry, Sharon, Tommy, Michael, Kathy, Meghan, Brendan, Noelle, Danny, Tim, Chris, Michele, and Debbie and 18 grand-nieces and nephews and daddy to his adoring dog, Katie. Joe graduated from Texas A&M in Corpus Christi, TX with a BS in accounting and worked as an accountant. He gave himself to every community he was a part of and served as a crossing guard in Ridgewood, NJ, gently guiding children on their way as he did throughout his life. He had also been an active member of the Midland Park Lions Club in New Jersey as well as volunteering with the Veterans Home in Paramus, New Jersey. Joe was a member of Christ Church in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ and most recently lent his beautiful voice to the choir as a devoted member of Christ Episcopal Church in Valdosta, GA. Joe was a fisherman, photographer, and New York Giants fanatic; his blood ran blue, white and red. He loved the world in this order: Margie, the ponies and any and all New York athletic teams. A kind and gentle soul, Joe was loved dearly by all who knew him. His legacy is one of kindness in the spirit of Saint Francis and it will live on in each of us who were blessed enough to have known him.

In lieu of flowers, please remember Joe by sending donations to Christ Church Jamming for Jesus, a not-for-profit program feeding children and seniors, at 1521 N. Patterson St. Valdosta, Ga. 31602. A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 6:00 P.M. with The Reverend Joye Cantrell, The Reverend Tar Drazdowski and The Reverend Deacons Stella Clark and Patricia Marks officiating. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com. Carson McLane.
