John Thomas (Tom) Walker

John T. (Tom) Walker, 80, of Dasher, died on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at his residence following a lengthy illness. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Johney & Ruby Acuff Walker, he moved to Dasher in his late teens to attend and graduate from Dasher Bible School. He went on to attend Harding University and later the Air University during his twenty year career in the military. Mr. Walker began his military career in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and later joined the U.S. Air Force. He retired as the NCO in charge of the Data Automation Computer Center stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada. He and Mrs. Walker returned to Dasher where he worked for many years in Transportation with Georgia Christian School (the former Dasher Bible College) and drove the tour bus for many trips. Mr. Walker was a member of Dasher Church of Christ.
Mr. Walker is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lynn Walker of Dasher; brother and sister in law, Bax and Velvet Walker of Chattanooga, Tennessee; sister, Carolyn Roden of Hixson, Tennessee; nieces, Ginger Roden Weeks of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Cheryl (Ken) Myers of Kingsport, Tennessee; nephew, Roddy (Sharon) Roden of Hixson, Tennessee; great nieces, Laney Frazier of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Abby (Hunter) Bradley of Rome, Georgia; great nephews, Bryan (Sarah) Myers and Alan (Alice ) Myers of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Dasher Cemetery. Mr. David Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Georgia Christian School.
