John T. Milhous, Jr.

John T. Milhous, Jr. passed away at Fellowship Home at Brookside on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 after a lengthy illness.
John was born in Valdosta on March 5, 1932 and was a lifelong resident of this area. He was the son of the late, John Tally Milhous, Sr. and Coreatha Limeberger Milhous.
John married Barbara Parker on March 1, 1959 and would have celebrated 63 years of marriage this year. He and Barbara loved to travel and had visited every state as well as the Holy Land in their retirement. He enjoyed Southwestern style square dancing, swimming and maintaining a beautiful yard. John was a lifelong and third generation member of the First United Methodist church and beloved member of the Becky Anthony Sunday school class. Other community involvements include being a charter member of the Hahira Historical Society, serving as president of the PCA Tall Pines Retirement Club, and he was a member of the American Legion Post 13 in Valdosta. He held the distinction of having the longest uninterrupted membership of 67 years in American Legion Post 13. He was a veteran of U. S. Navy having served during the Korean Conflict. Following his Honorable discharge, he began his career at the paper mill and retired after 43 years for service in the storeroom.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Parker Milhous; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Carrie Milhous, granddaughter Sadie Elizabeth Milhous, and grandson, Teagan John Parker Milhous, all of Tallahassee, Florida; a sister, Kathryn Connell of Naylor, Georgia; a sister-in-law, Juanita Parker Morgan, of Valdosta; nieces, Lynn Connell, of Naylor, Georgia, Claire and Jeff Anderson, of Austin, Texas, Grace and Wesley Russell, of Ft. Benning, Georgia, and Anna Morgan of Tallahassee, Florida; nephews, Jamie and Cathy Morgan, of Johns Creek, Georgia, Bobby and Jenifer Morgan of Jacksonville, Florida, and Jay Morgan of Tullahoma, Tennessee, and Joseph and Caroline Morgan of Valdosta; and two great nieces. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Jimmy Morgan and Milton Connell.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 23, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Valdosta. Masks are requested for all in attendance. An opportunity to video record a message to the family will be available beginning at 1:00 p.m. A private family interment will follow at Friendship Primitive Baptist Cemetery in Hahira.
