John Patterson

John "Pat" Patterson, 84, of Valdosta, died peacefully on Sunday, August 7, 2011. Born in Deland, Florida he was the son of the late Myron Raines Patterson and Franchesca Julia Mayer Patterson. Mr. Patterson was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army and attended Stetson University. He was a lifelong musician. His first band was called "Johnny Patterson and His Orchestra" playing "The Sweetest Music in Dixie." He performed for many years with the Dixieland Band in Daytona Beach, Florida. He was a bandleader of many other bands and orchestras throughout his life. He was well known to those in Valdosta, playing for churches, dances, parties and county wide special events. He was a Salvation Army Band Master, mentor, and teacher to many young musicians who had a special place in his heart. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the American Legion.

Survivors are his daughter and son in law, Carol and John Meier of Deland, Florida; granddaughter, Nikki (Shawn) Sweat of Valdosta; step daughters, Susan Wade Stewart of Valdosta and Cynthia Wade Brett of Cullowhee, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Wade Patterson.

Services will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 12:10 p.m. The Reverend Dan O'Connell will officiate. Mr. Patterson's cremains will be interred beside his wife in the mausoleum at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
