John Matthew (Matt) Griner

January 25, 1966 — December 16, 2007

John Matthew (Matt) Griner, 41, died suddenly on Sunday, December 16, 2007 at his residence. Born on January 25, 1966 in Valdosta, Matt had been a Correctional Officer for the Valdosta State Prison and was a veteran of the Navy. He loved to fish and loved to play jokes on family and friends and was a great and loving father, husband, grandfather, son, brother, son-in-law, and father-in-law. Matt was a great American and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Wendy Griner of Valdosta; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kayla and Johnny Moore, and Nichole Lynne (Nick, Jr.) Griner, all of Valdosta; two sons, Joe Matthew Griner and Andrew (Hunter) Griner, both of Valdosta; his parents, Joe and Nannette Griner of Echols Co.; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Dee Dee Adkins, Jolee Caldwell, and Patti & Jason Jones, all of Valdosta; and two grandchildren, Adria and J.J. Moore, both of Valdosta. Also surviving are his grandmother, Erline Rogers; his father-in-law, Ronald Cleveland, both of Valdosta; and his aunts and uncles, Laura and Gary Mosier of Merritt Island, FL and Ernestine and Clarence Folsom of Valdosta.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Skip Van Nus officiating.
