John Edward Morris, Jr.

May 22, 1933 — July 16, 2017

John Edward Morris, Jr. son of John Edward Morris, Sr. and Gertrude Morris of Virginia, a resident of the Fellowship Senior Living Home at Brookside in Valdosta, Ga, passed away on July 16, 2017. He was born in Culpepper, Virginia on May 22, 1933. He met Betty Jean Morris on a blind date and soon after married her on February 14, 1953. He attended Troy State University before joining the United States Air Force. John was in the United States Air Force for twenty years, serving in the Korean War and the Vietnam War receiving a medal of commendation for military merit. His final military years were served as a Master Sergeant at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Ga. He owned Morris Insurance Agency, which was originally located on Bemiss Road, for 44 years serving the military and civilians in the Valdosta community. He was a strong supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of Valdosta for many years as well. Before returning to Valdosta, John and his wife lived in Oxford, Florida and were very active in the Oxford United Methodist Church where they made many lifelong friends. John enjoyed farming, and working outside in the yard and on the church grounds; he would have rather been working outside sweating in the southern sun than anywhere else!

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Betty Jean Boddie Morris and their five daughters, Lyndall LaMontagne, Janet Carter, Karen Williams, Sandra Ganas, and Rebecca Hendricks and his son-in-law Jim Hendricks, as well as 9 grandsons, Christopher LaMontagne and his wife Emily, Jeremy LaMontagne and his wife Amber , Travis LaMontagne and his wife Charley, Matthew Johnson, Richard Carter, Chad Williams and his wife Kelsey, Will Ganas, Taylor Hendricks and his wife Tyler and Dillion Hendricks and 6 great grandchildren, two brothers and their wives George and Susan Morris, Leslie and Jill Morris, and 5 nephews and 3 nieces. He is predeceased by his son-in-law Kenneth Blanton LaMontagne and very close friend James Roland Wetherington.

His wife and daughters are grateful to God for the very special memories they created together.
