John B. Cook, Jr.

September 3, 1928 — April 18, 2008

John B. Cook, Jr., of Lake Park, passed away April 18, 2008 at Shand's Hospital in Gainesville, Florida following a sudden illness. He was born September 3, 1928 in Valdosta, Georgia to the late John Bunyan and Gladys Templeton Cook. He and his father owned and managed Cook's Motel for many years. One of his favorite hobbies was gardening and his favorite flower was the daylily. Mr. Cook worked long and hard for his Daylily Club and earned the nickname of "Mr. Daylily". As a veteran of the U.S. Army he had served his country during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Cook was a charter member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church and a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.

Mr. Cook is survived by his wife of 54 years, Louise H. Cook of Lake Park, one daughter, Patti Cook of Valdosta, one son and daughter in law, Jack and Shannon Cook of Valdosta, three grandchildren, Reagan, Caleb and Mae Cook, two sisters, Faye Cook Raney of Marietta, Virginia Cook Bishop of St. Petersburg, Florida and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Cook was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Cook Sanders.

Funeral services will be held today, Sunday, April 20, 2008, at 4 p.m. at Park Avenue United Methodist Church. Reverend Willie Beasley will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to the Park Avenue United Methodist Church Missions or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 400 Northcreek, Suite 300, 3715 Northside Pkwy, NW, Atlanta, GA 30327.
