Joanne Myrick Youles

Joanne Myrick Youles, age 89, passed away at Camellia Walk Assisted Living in Evans, GA on Sunday, March 6, 2022.
Born in Greensboro, Georgia on December 19, 1932, Joanne was the daughter of the late Ethel Bernice Bernhardt and the late James Richard Myrick. Joanne had been a resident of Valdosta for the past 66 years. A graduate of Barrett School of Nursing, Joanne worked briefly as a nurse but spent most of her life as a homemaker. Joanne enjoyed needlepoint, French hand sewing, decorating and St. Simons Island.
Joanne was active in her Valdosta community as a part of the First United Methodist Church Alter Guild, part owner of the Wedding Belles for many years, the Valdosta Junior Service League (lifetime member), Cotillion Club, and the Tea Dance Club.
Joanne is survived by her husband of 69 years, Dr. Owen K. Youles, Jr. She is also survived by children Kathryn Youles of Sylvania, Owen “Buddy” K. Youles, III of St. Simons Island, Charles and Betty Youles of Savannah, and Jennifer and Tom Dorn of North Augusta, SC; grandchildren Briggs and Bethany Dorn of Anderson, SC; Garrett and Margaret Dorn of Johnson City, TN; Lydia Dorn of Cayce, SC; and Shelby Youles of Savannah. Also, her great grandchild Brighton Dorn of Anderson, SC. Joanne is survived by her sisters Helen Brooks of Hickory, NC and Laura (David) Jones of Simpsonville, SC. She is predeceased by her parents, sister, June Brown and brothers-in-laws, J.L. Brown and Dr. T.W. Brooks, III.
Graveside services for Joanne will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Rev. Anthony McPhail and Rev. John McGowan will officiate. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:30-1:30 pm at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lowndes County Historical Society would be appreciated.
