Joan Howell Hartman

Joan Howell Hartman, 82, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at South Georgia Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She left her earthly home surrounded by her loving family and was given a final prayer by her grandson as she entered her heavenly home. She was born on November 3, 1936 in Jennings, Florida to the late Joe S. and Agnes Blair Howell. Upon graduation from Jennings High School she attended Union College in Kentucky and started work with the phone company. Later, she was a civilian employee with the Department of Defense and worked for 31 years at Moody Air Force Base in Supply Logistics. Joan was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi and was active in that organization and was a die- hard Florida State Seminoles fan. She was also a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ernie L. Hartman of Valdosta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest “Howie” and Marian “Cissy” Hartman of Valdosta, and Kevin and Kim Hartman of Morven; a daughter, Shawnyce “Shawn” Jo Hartman of Valdosta; her grandson and his wife, Yancey and Amanda Hartman of Blakely, Georgia; step-grandchildren and their spouses, Thomas and Leslie Keen, Stephanie and Shane Joiner, Matt Keen and his fiancé, Hannah Pittman, and Sophie Keen; great-grandchildren, Paisley, Alden, and Blaine Hartman; step-great-grandchildren, Anderson, Britain, Cayson, Dashton, and Emberlyn Joiner, and Dalton Keen; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Carolyn Howell of Jennings, Florida, and Richard and Delores Howell of Jasper, Florida; sister-in-law, Patsy Hartman Sweely, of Arkansas City, Kansas; a special cousin, Betty Sue Zant of Valdosta; her aunt, Mary Conner of Wichita, Kansas; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Howell Page; a niece, Kimberly Ann Tepper; her furry friends, Bascom, Rudy, Beasley, and Buddy the cat.
Services for Joan Howell Hartman will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Roger Rolison and Rev. Yancey Hartman officiating. The burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Langdale Hospice House, Hospice of South Georgia, Park Avenue United Methodist Church, or Bridges of Hope in Morven, Georgia.
