Jerry Woodard Brown, Sr., 88, of Valdosta, died Monday, October 29, 2007 at Crestwood Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was born on April 4, 1919 in Lowndes county, the son of R. I. and Uldene Brown. He graduated from Clyattville High School, was a World War II veteran serving with the Georgia National Guard and the Army Air Corp completing 50 missions with the 15th AF as a B-24 flight commander. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, was medically retired as a Captain from the USAF in 1950. Mr. Brown graduated from Valdosta State College and then entered the real estate business in Chattanooga, TN. He was a Master Mason in the Signal Mountain Lodge # 758, member of the Chattanooga Scottish Rite, 33rd degree and a life member of Chattanooga Alhambra Shrine.
He is survived by one son, Jerry W. (Buddy) Brown, Jr. of Plano, TX, two sisters and one brother in law, Virginia B. Turner, Rachel and Lewis Russell, one brother and two sisters in law, Ralph and Hilda Brown, all of Valdosta, one sister in law, Mary Sims Brown of Littleton, Colorado and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Brown is predeceased by one brother, Robert I. Brown, Jr. and one sister, Lula B. Finney.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 1, 2007 at eleven a. m. at the graveside in Sunset Hill Cemetery with military honors. Burial will follow. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p. m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Condolences to the family may be expressed online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the Signal Mountain Lodge # 758, Signal Mountain, TN 37377.
