Jerriann Lacour Levy

March 24, 1949 — March 23, 2019

Jerriann Lacour Levy was born on March 24, 1949 in New Orleans, Louisiana and passed away on March 23, 2019 in Valdosta, Georgia.

She attended high school at the Academy of the Holy Angels and was the first in her family to complete high school and attend postsecondary school. She graduated at the top of her nursing class at the Mather School of Nursing at Baptist Medical Center in New Orleans.

Jerriann married the love of her life, Louis Levy, on August 4, 1972. They lived in Blacksburg, Virginia before making their home in Hammond, Louisiana, where they raised three children. In 1989, she and her family moved to Valdosta, Georgia. During her life, Jerriann worked as a registered nurse in emergency rooms and student health centers. She retired from the Student Health Center at Valdosta State University after years of caring for those in need.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother, a gardner who loved flowers and plants, a baker and chef who enjoyed cooking the cajun dishes of her youth, a traveler always prepared with detailed itineraries, a lifelong consumer of history and trivia, an avid storyteller, and an active member of the Catholic Church. Every year, she planned a family vacation to Navarre Beach, Florida, one of her favorite places.

In 2013, Jerrian was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and she was determined to make a full recovery. She lived for nearly six more years.

Jerriann was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Geraldine Lacour. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Louis Levy, daughters Michelle Levy Russell and Denise Levy (Daniel Byrd), son Brian Levy (Erica Meade Levy), and grandchildren Gram Russell, Harper Russell, Vance Russell, and Eliana Levy. Jerriann will be forever remembered by her cousins and extended family, her birth family, and many dear friends.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, March 28 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Valdosta, Georgia, with visitation at 10:00am, a vigil service at 10:30am, and a mass at 11:00am. A celebration of Jerriann’s life also will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana at a later date.
