Jason Nichols

February 22, 1972 — May 30, 2012

Jason Christopher Nichols, age 40, went to be with his heavenly father on Wednesday, May 30, 2012. Jason was born on February 22, 1972 in Valdosta, to Norman C. Nichols, Sr. and the late Wyolene Grant Nichols.
Jason graduated from Valdosta High School with the class of 1990. He was a member of the Valdosta Wildcats Football Team, where he played quarterback. During his years as a Wildcat, the team won the State and National Championship in 1986 and the State Championship in 1989. He was offensive co-captain for the 1989 State Championship. Jason earned distinction as a Super Cat in weight lifting and conditioning. He was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a member of the Key Club and was on the yearbook staff at Valdosta High School. Jason was recognized as Who's Who among High School Students and received the National High School Award for Excellence. He was also recognized by the Society for Distinguished High School Students, Who's Who among American Colleges and Universities, Boys Club Boy of the Year in 1984, and was a member of the Valdosta High Key Club and a Senior Superlative. Jason loved all his classmates and was a leader among his peers. Jason graduated from Valdosta State University with two degrees, one in History and one in Biology/Chemistry. While at VSU he was president of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity and remained active in KA functions after graduation. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
A very giving person, Jason had a big heart for other people. He loved his family and friends very much and they loved him too.
Survivors are his father, Norman C. Nichols, Sr., two brothers, Cliff Nichols and Grant Nichols, all of Valdosta; three sisters, Debbi (Charles) Steinberg, Nanci (Frank) Ballard of Valdosta, and Penny (Richard) Gustafson of Southlake, Texas. He is also survived by nephews, Chad (Jennie) Steinberg of Tifton, Dan Gustafson of Southlake, Texas and Andy Nichols of Englewood, Tennessee; nieces, Christy (Jeremy) Allbritton, Lauren Nichols and Bailey Burgess of Valdosta, Lindsay (Andrew) Taylor of Boston, Georgia, Shelby (Zac) Cave of Hill AFB, Utah, Melissa (Jeff) Fossett of Portland, Oregon, and Andrea Gustafson of Southlake, Texas, Karlee and Emily Grace Nichols of Englewood, Tennessee; great nephews, Trey and Jacob Steinberg of Tifton, Garrison Allbritton of Valdosta and Blaine Fossett of Portland, Oregon; great niece, Emma Allbritton of Valdosta; one special uncle and aunt, Marvin and Ann Nichols of Valdosta. Jason had tons of family all over the United States including many cousins and his loveable Labrador Retriever, Quik. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Wyolene Grant Nichols and a great niece, Alana Fossett of Portland, Oregon.
Funeral services will be held at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Saturday from 5 – 8 p.m. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
