James Kenneth (Kenny) Scruggs

James Kenneth (Kenny) Scruggs, 70, was born in Brooks County, Georgia on July 1, 1942. He died at his home on Friday, December 14, 2012 after a long illness. He moved with his parents, Louise Ferrell and James Fred Scruggs and his brother, Ferrell to Valdosta at a very early age. Mr. Scruggs attended Valdosta City Schools and Valdosta State University. He went into business with his father and brother in 1961 to form Scruggs Concrete Company, of which, he later became President and CEO . Mr. Scruggs was married to the former Sue Nelle Girardin for 49 years. He was a devoted Deacon, Elder and Trustee of First Christian Church in Valdosta. He was an avid supporter of the Valwood School where both of his children graduated and where his three grandchildren attended and are attending. Mr. Scruggs was a faithful member of "Buddy's Club" and he looked forward to those meetings each Friday.
Mr. Scruggs is survived by his wife; two children and their spouses, Suzanne Scruggs Lastinger and her husband John A. Lastinger and James Kenneth Scruggs, Jr. and his wife Deann Dasher Scruggs; three grandchildren, Lindsay Marie Lastinger, John Kenneth (Jake) Lastinger, and Elizabeth Louise (Elle) Scruggs; brother Ferrell Scruggs and his wife Pam; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Emil and Patti Girardin and William and Dee Dee Girardin, all of Valdosta. He is also survived by his beloved friend of 40 years, Shirley Copeland Daniels; numerous nieces and nephews and his dog, Belle.
Pallbearers will be Jake Lastinger, Ferrell Scruggs, Jr., Brad Lastinger, Donald Altman, Emil Girardin, Jr., Paxton Morris, Wayne Cargile, James Dewar, Jr., Scott Turner, John Lee Ingram.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 17, 2012 at 11 am in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Michael officiating. A private interment will follow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 pm until 7 pm on Sunday.
