James (Jim) Brooks Sineath

James (Jim) Brooks Sineath, 65, of Valdosta, passed away suddenly on November 21, 2014. Jim was born in Palo Alto, California, on June 24, 1949, to the late John Q. Sineath, Jr., and Anne Turner Sineath. The family moved briefly to Hicksville, NY, before returning to Valdosta in 1950.

Following in his father's footsteps, Jim had a meaningful career as a developer building in Valdosta and throughout the southeast. He enjoyed his free time at the family farm in Brooks County and his beach house on St. George Island. In recent years, Jim was an avid song writer, performing as "Jimmy James" with the Hot Grease Band.

A former U.S. Marine Corps Reservist, Jim was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Valdosta and the Kairos Prison Ministries. He served on the Board of Directors of the YMCA, the Valwood School and the Refuge of Hope, and was involved in many other philanthropic organizations.

Jim is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Monique Field Sineath; son John Turner Sineath and his wife Abby; daughter Brannen Paulette Sineath; granddaughter Cullen Elizabeth ("Coco") Sineath; brother John Q. Sineath III and wife Anne; brother William Turner Sineath and wife Lucille; sister Martiele Sineath Schroder and husband Michael of Atlanta; brother-in-law Daniel Field of Jacksonville, FL; nieces and nephews Susan Sineath Callahan (Doug), Patricia Sineath Thornton (Jim), Martiele Sineath, Margaret Anne Sineath Newsome (Lee), Hill Schroder, Elizabeth Schroder, Donna Mayo, Troy Field (Diana), Chad Field (Jeanna), and Jennifer Field; and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.

The funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Valdosta on Monday, November 24, at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Bob Moon officiating. Pallbearers will be Mac Mackey, Bob Langdale, Larry Brandon, Guy York, Kenny Crago, Chuck Thomas, and Lane Giddens. Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to First United Methodist Church Youth Fund and Children's Fund, 109 W. Valley St., Valdosta, GA, 31601, the YMCA, Refuge of Hope, 7566 Hwy 84 W, Quitman, GA 31643, or any charity of your choice.
