Ira Elbert New, Jr.

IRA ELBERT NEW, JR. , 77, of Valdosta died Sunday, April 23, 2006 at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born on January 7, 1929 in Cook County to the late Ira Elbert New, Sr. and Thelma Mae Sutton New. Mr. New was a retired chemist with Owens-Illinois for more than thirty years and was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Westview Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Lou Howell New of Valdosta, his three children and their spouses, Andy and Kay New of Barney, Amy and Dan Donathan of Valdosta, Bert and Erin New of Watkinsville, five grandchildren, Jennifer New, Daniel Donathan, Jr., LeeLa Donathan, Kali Donathan and Sara New, three great grandchildren, Nathan Albertson, Haylee Bodiford and Drew Radcliff.

Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2006 in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Houseal and Rev. Stephen Norris officiating.
