Horace Reaves (Buddy) West

Horace Reaves (Buddy) West, 81, of Valdosta passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Langdale Hospice House. He was born on September 19, 1929 in Valdosta to the late Senator William Stanley West, Jr. and Lilla Mae Webb West and was a lifelong resident of Valdosta. Mr. West graduated from Valdosta High School and Presbyterian College where he played on the golf and tennis teams and served in the United States Army from 1951-1953. He was a retired sales associate with Belk Hudson and a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a son and daughter in law, H. Reaves, Jr. and Amy West of Philadelphia, PA., a daughter and son in law, Ree West Nichols and Bill Nichols of Valrico, Fla., two grandchildren, Jason Taylor Nichols and Andrea Marie Nichols both of Valrico, Fla., a sister, Sis West May of Valdosta, a brother in law, Caswell Sirmans of Lakeland, GA., three sisters in law, Paulette Sirmans, Martha Nugent both of Lakeland, GA. and Rita Servoss of Greenville, TN. as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Dorothy Sirmans West, a brother and sister in law, William (Bill) Stanley, III and Laura West of Dawson, GA., three brothers in law, Jack May of Valdosta, Donald Sirmans and Dalton Sirmans both of Lakeland, GA.

Funeral services for Mr. West will be held at 10am on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Danner officiating. Entombment will follow in the West Family Masoleum at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5-7pm at the funeral home.
