Herman L. Adkins, Sr.

June 2, 1942 — December 22, 2014

Herman L. Adkins, Sr., 72, of Quitman died on Monday, December 22, 2014, at Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta. Born in Valdosta on June 2, 1942, he was a son of the late Leroy and Lillie Akins Adkins. A charter member of the Withlacoochee Hunt Club he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had a love for the outdoors, family, the Atlanta Falcons and the Georgia Bulldogs. Herman was admired for his straightforward personality and his outspoken tongue. He was an extreme perfectionist. A member of Calvary Baptist Church, he had retired from Owens Illinois where he worked for many years as a machine operator.

Survivors are his daughters and sons in law, Joye L. and Kevin Morton of Valdosta, Renee and Robert Whitmer of Valdosta; son and daughter in law, Herman Jr. "Lee" and Michelle Adkins of Quitman; grandchildren, Shannon and Ryan Youmans of Clovis, New Mexico, Justin Morton of Sikeston, Missouri, Shelby Morton, Jaren and Danny Ewry, Caleb Whitmer, Andrew Whitmer, Eric Stout all of Valdosta, Benjamin Stout of Kokomo, Indiana, Anna Feagle of Quitman, Case Adkins of Quitman; great grandchild Lukas Brayden Morton of Sikeston, Missouri; brother and sister in law, Tommy and Anna Adkins of Valdosta, Charles and Sharon Adkins of Dixie, Glenn and Brenda Adkins of Valdosta, Perry and Violet Adkins of Bentonville, AR.; several nieces and nephews and a large extended family.

In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Adkins will be cremated and there will be no services. The family will receive friends at home on Tuesday evening.
