Helen P. Bennett

Helen Pafford Bennett, age 69, passed away peacefully at her lake home on Friday December 13, 2013. She is survived by her husband John R. Bennett, her daughter Christie P Needleman (Jonas) of Baltimore, MD, her step children, John Bennett, Jr. (Heidi) of Savannah, Pamela Smith of Valdosta; six grandchildren, Max Needleman, Luke Needleman, Oscar Needleman of Baltimore, Marie Demersseman, Bennett Demersseman and Sarah Smith of Valdosta; her sister Jean Roberts of Boston. She was predeceased by her son, Graydon Pierce III (Stucco).

Helen was born in Albany, Georgia to the late Fred and Laura Jean Pafford. While completing her graduate degrees at Valdosta State University she was the VP and Comptroller at Valdosta Federal Savings and Loan. Helen was a teacher of children and teachers. She worked as a classroom teacher in Valdosta City Schools, Language Arts and Staff Development Specialist with Coast Plains Regional Educational Service Agency, administrator with Lanier County Schools and later continued her consulting and formed Sweetbay Education Services and Linking the Language.

Helen's grace, wisdom, love of learning and laughter brought together children and adults alike. She was a devoted member of Christ Episcopal Church. She loved her church family just as she loved her own family. Helen's generosity, light and spirit are mirrored in her paintings, stories, cooking, books, and home decor. Just as she lived lovingly, gently and vibrantly, she died, surrounded by the love of family and friends.

The celebration of Helen's life and funeral will take place on Sunday, December 22, 2013, at 1:00 pm at Christ Episcopal Church in Valdosta, Georgia with The Reverend Joye Q.
