Dennis "Hal" Johnson, 47, of Quitman, went to our eternal home on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at Langdale Hospice House. He was born on July 27, 1968, in Tallahassee, Florida.
Hal was a committed Christian who readily shared his experiences and testimony in the hope of introducing Christ to people he encountered. His musical talents were one of the vehicles that carried that message – singing, guitar and mandolin, song-writing – and his sense of humor, engaging smile and caring heart made him a man beloved by family and friends. Hal was also an outdoor sports advocate, primarily in fishing and hunting, passions that enhanced his job as a supervisor at Gander Mountain in St. Louis, Charleston and most recently Valdosta. When he went fishing, which was often, he said he was doing research in order to better serve his customers. For a glimpse of his profound effect on others, see Hal Johnson's Victory page on FaceBook.
Hal is predeceased by his sister, Jill Johnson; his grandparents Harold Johnson, C. W. Griner and Mae Griner; and his brother-in-law Anthony "Skip" Albert.
Hal is survived by his adoring wife Cynthia Crisp-Johnson, his father, Dennis Johnson; his mother Cheryl Oliver, step-sons Brent (Sabrina) Crisp of Valdosta and Dalton Crisp of Maryville, TN; a step-granddaughter, Teagan Crisp (Valdosta); his grandmother, Mildred Johnson of Quitman; special mentor and cousin Heather Frederick of Girard, IL, a multitude of heart-broken cousins, aunts, uncles, other family members and friends throughout the US.
A visitation will be held at Lake Park United Methodist Church, 412 W. Cotton Ave., Lake Park, on Sunday from 4:30-6 p.m., followed by a brief memorial service at 6 p.m. A celebration of life event is planned for May, date and time to be announced. Honorary pallbearers will be Cale Pierce, Chance England, Jake Stanfill, Robert Gammon, Chad Harrison, Mark Livingston, and Kevin Parker. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Hal's memory to Hospice of South GA, 2263 Pineview, Dr., Valdosta 31602, or to Ducks Unlimited, 1216 GA Hwy 111, Moultrie, GA 31768.
