Granville Lorin Riddle

April 25, 1950 — March 18, 2021

Our beloved Lorin passed away on March 18, 2021, in Valdosta, GA, after an insane year where he conquered prostate cancer and had a brave battle with Covid.

He was born April 25, 1950, to parents Granville Grant and Mary Sue Riddle in Talihina, OK.

Lorin was preceded in death by his father and mother; his brother, Raymond Riddle; his sister, Tommy Sue Russ; his granddaughter, Sophia Jane Hines; his niece, Barbara Lynn Frazier; and his nephews, Joe Selph and Mark Selph.

He is survived by his wife, Vickie Riddle of Valdosta, GA; his daughters, Geri Anderson of Redbanks, MS, and Suzin (Daniel) Hines of Fort Worth, TX; his sons, Stephen (Jennifer) Riddle of Vienna, VA, Chris (Emily) Saturday of Valdosta, GA, and Ben (Sonya) Saturday of Barney, GA; his granddaughters, Brook Anderson of Byhalia, MS, Erica Brown of Millington, TN, Reign Parker of Fort Worth, TX, Kaitlyn Poag of Barney, GA, Kara Beth Saturday of Moultrie, GA, and Isabelle Poag of Barney, GA; his grandsons, William Harrison of Barney, GA, Jacob Riddle of Vienna, VA, and Colin Riddle of Vienna, VA; great-grandson Ty Anderson of Redbanks, MS; sisters, Lila (Ben) Mack of Deltona, FL, and Lavern (Bill) Smith of Vero Beach, FL; brothers, Rex (Barbara) Riddle of Malakoff, TX, and Gary (Mary) Riddle of Kaufman, TX; sisters-in-law, Shelia Riddle of Albertville, AL, and Carol (Randy) Saturday of Moultrie, GA; brothers-in-law, Vernon Russ of Hahira, GA, and Larry (Lavonia) Wimberly of Moultrie, GA. He is also survived by many other family and friends who will miss him greatly.

Lorin was a proud graduate of Lowndes County High School. He moved to Texas where he raised a family, co-owned a business with his brothers and spent much of his time fishing! He later returned to Valdosta where he met and married the love of his life, Vickie. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and spent every morning in the presence and Word of God (with coffee in hand, of course!). He co-founded McRae Riddle, Inc. where it was his joy to mentor many of the men who worked for him.

He served the body of Christ well for many years as a Sunday School teacher, board member and Gideon.

Lorin never could pass up a guitar or car show, a bowl of ice cream, or helping a person in need. He loved restoring and driving classic automobiles, playing music and answering his children’s constant calls for advice. He fully embraced his title of Papa, soaking up every minute he got to spend with his grandchildren. He was most relaxed spending time near the ocean, where he had hoped to retire someday.

You could always count on Lorin to show up for important life events. Whether it was a birth that he had to drive 15 hours to be at, a graduation, a CD release party, a surgery, regatta or a birthday ... he showed up!

Lorin was a wonderful husband, dad, papa, brother and friend. We cherished him and knowing him made each of us a better person.
