Gladys Jernigan Lofton

Gladys Jernigan Lofton, 74, of Valdosta died on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Smith Northview following a lengthy illness. She was born on August 20, 1938 in Naylor, Georgia to the late Archie Daniel and Dasey Lee Jones Jernigan and has been a resident of this area all her life. She attended Naylor High School and was an outstanding basketball player. Upon graduation from high school, she worked for J.H. Harvey's for over 30 years and became a Licensed Practical Nurse following her employment with Harvey's. She worked with pediatricians Dr. Parkhurst and Dr. Alfonzo in their practice for many years and retired from South Georgia Medical Center. She attended Bemiss Road Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Gina Lofton of Clyattville, daughter and son-in-law, Ronda Lofton and Steve Hall of Valdosta, and Randy Lofton of Naylor; 11 grandchildren, Heather Lofton, Ricky Lofton II, Brock Lofton, Jennifer Leigh Barrett, Kimberly Grosvenor, Jessica Porter, Randy Lofton, Jr., Charles Thomas Lofton, Stevie Hall, Kyle Hall and Ryan Hall; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Merle Blanton of High Springs, Florida, Dorothy Blanchard, Nell and George Blanchard Mildred Croft, and Gloria and Lloyd Luke all of Valdosta; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Archie Jernigan of Lake City, Florida and Wayne and Joann Jernigan of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Lofton; a grandson, Jonathan Alan Williams; two brothers and a sister, Alfred Jernigan, Claude Jernigan, and Mary Myrtle Coody.

Services for Gladys Jernigan Lofton will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Robbie Harrington and Rev. Jay Watkins officiating. The burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
