George E. Dallas

August 29, 1917 — June 16, 2007

George E. Dallas, 89, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, June 16, 2007, at his residence following a lengthy illness. Born in Manchester, NH to the late Gus George and Astasia Badalas. Mr. Dallas grew up in Clearwater Beach, FL before moving with his family to High Point, NC where he attended and graduated from the University of North Carolina and then attended Duke University for graduate studies. Following college, he worked for Hercules Powder Company before enlisting in the Navy during WW II where he became a corpsman and served as a surgical assistant with the Marines. Following the war, Mr. Dallas started work with the National Drug Company which later became Dow Chemical Company. After 35 years with Dow, he retired as the Eastern Division Manager. In his retirement, Mr. Dallas began to work part time as a substitute teacher at Lowndes High and Georgia Christian. He found that he loved teaching so much that he went back to school and became certified as a teacher and took a job at Open Bible School where he taught for 4 years. He loved teaching, especially chemistry classes, and his great desire was for young people to study and excel academically and to study God’s word, the Bible.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Vivian Dallas of Valdosta; three sons and daughters in law, Gary & Linda Dallas of Nashville, TN, Frank & Kathy Dallas and Scott & Brenda Dallas, all of Valdosta; a sister, Mable Clark of High Point, NC; eight grandchildren, Rett (Kim) Dallas of Bowling Green, KY, Kristen (Josh) Summers of Nashville, TN, Andrea (Michael) Sale, Lauren Dallas, Tyler Dallas, Arrica Dallas, Sydney Dallas and Savannah Dallas, all of Valdosta. Also surviving are five great grandchildren, Carder Dallas, Aby Dallas, Cooper Summers, Jayden Sale & Hallie Sale; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Dallas will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at First Christian Church. Rev. Jack Harris will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
