Frances Hinson Copeland

Frances Hinson Copeland, 83, of Lake Park died July 2, 2011 at Crestwood Nursing Home, Valdosta. She was born Dec 3, 1927 in Candler, North Carolina to J. Lloyd Hinson and Helen Israel Hinson. She was a retired switchboard operator for Evans Products Company. It was during this time she learned to multitask before multitasking was recognized as a virtue. She grew up in Buncombe County, North Carolina but met her husband James C. Copeland while attending school at Georgia Christian School (GCS). After her retirement she found various ways to support GCS: volunteering, organizing, and finally setting up and running a thrift store in Jasper, Florida. They purchased a bus for the children in Hamilton County, Florida to ride to school from the funds raised and she continued to operate the store until her health forced her to step down.

Survivors include her husband, James C. Copeland and son, James L. Copeland and his wife Janet all of Valdosta; one daughter, Ginger C. Knowles and her husband Russell of Deatsville, Alabama; one granddaughter, Martha Spence and her husband Chad of Winder; two grandsons, Randy Knowles and his wife Christine of Deatsville, Alabama and Brad Knowles SSGT USAF, assigned to RAF Lakenheath, England and currently deployed to Afghanistan; one great grandson, Paul Blaine Spence of Winder, and one sister, Sara Hinson Peltier of Asheville, NC. Frances was preceded in death by her brother, Carl Hinson of Hamilton, Ohio and sister, Faye Hinson Murray of Nashville, Tennessee.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Carson McLane Funeral Home, followed by burial in the Copeland Cemetery in Valdosta. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 3, 2011 from 3-5 pm at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to make a donation to Georgia Christian School or the Lake Park Church of Christ building fund. Carson McLane Funeral home is in charge of the arrangements.
