Floyd Hamilton Rogers

Floyd Hamilton Rogers, 81, of Valdosta died Sunday, July 17, 2016 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born in Valdosta on August 20, 1934 to the late Carroll Bart and Jewell Walker Rogers. Mr. Rogers was a member of First Baptist Church since 1977 where he was a member of Benny Olliff's Sunday School Class and retired Electrical Maintenance Supervisor with PCA/Clyattville. He was a fifty year member of the IBEW and had served as an officer. Mr. Rogers was a 1953 graduate of Valdosta High School under Coach Wright Bazemore and played in the 1952 Peanut Bowl Championship Game. He organized the Valdosta RC Flyers, was a member of Academy of Model Aeronautics and was a master builder of aircraft. Mr. Rogers mentored people in aircraft flying, building and repairing aircraft. He was a former member of the Forrest Street United Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee.
Survivors include his wife, Avernell Dawkins Sanders Rogers of Valdosta; two sons and a daughter in law, Bart Norwood Rogers (Lorri); Bret Hamilton Rogers all of Valdosta; daughter and son in law, Cheryl Sanders Shelton (Chuck) of Atlanta; three granddaughters, Haley Amanda Rogers Chaney (Levi), Morgan Brooke Rogers Roberts (Jake), Virginia Faith Rogers; two great grandchildren; brother in law, B. S. Hightower of Valdosta; nieces and nephews, Treina Dove, Brenda Hightower Ojevaar (Otto), Gerald Rogers, Randy Rogers (Jane), Marie Cigantta (John); numerous other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Norwood Rogers; his daughter, Janice Lynn Rogers; two brothers and a sister, Carroll Bart Rogers Jr., Harvey Walker Rogers and Elizabeth Sarah Rogers Hightower.
Funeral services will be held at 10am, Thursday, July 21, 2016 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with burial to follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
