Felton Davis, Jr.

February 15, 1925 — August 24, 2008

After a long life richly blessed by family, friends, community and church, Felton Davis, Jr., of Valdosta died on Sunday evening at Langdale Hospice House. He was the son of the late Felton and Dorothy Dasher Davis, nephew of the late Margaret Dasher and Valdosta composer James A. Dasher, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean Lovell Davis; his children, Dottie, Felton, III and Margaret; son-in-law, Alan Hunt; grandchildren, Megan Clements and Aidan Hunt; stepmother, Jeanne Davis Rountree, stepsister, Jane Bennett and her children; cousins, Laura Dasher, Bena and Tom Bayless and their children.

Mr. Davis served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II, was a graduate of Emory University and a Gold Member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He worked for Ciba-Geigy Pharmaceuticals in Summit, New Jersey for 33 years. Following his retirement in 1983, he lived in Gainesville, GA and lectured at Brenau University. He founded and moderated the Brenau News Forum and wrote a series of "Reflections on the Lake" for the local paper. He also served on boards for Northeast Georgia Medical Center, the Quinlan Arts Center and the Citizen's Bank. He was the captain of the volunteer rescue squad of the Flanders, New Jersey fire department, served as an Elder and Deacon of the Presbyterian church in Metairie, Louisiana and in Morris Plains, New Jersey. Mr. Davis was a private pilot and avid member of Airplane Owners & Pilots Association. He was also honored in July for his 40-year record of perfect attendance at the Rotary Club.

A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday August, 30, 2008 at Trinity Presbyterian Church with Rev. Richard Hart officiating. The family will receive friends at their Valdosta home on Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the SGMC Foundation 2906 D N.
