Ethel Martin Pilkington

July 26, 1914 — October 3, 2011

Ethel Martin Pilkington, 97, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, October 3, 2011 following a lengthy illness. She was born in Elkton, Florida on July 26, 1914 to the late William Morris and Lillie Prosser Martin. She was a graduate of Cox College in Atlanta with a degree in Home Economics. Mrs. Pilkington was the wife of Virgil Pilkington, Jr. and they were blessed with a happy marriage for 69 years. She was a homemaker, excellent cook, and loved caring for her family. An active member of Northside Baptist Church, until her health failed, she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a faithful and loving mentor to “her girls” in the Homemakers class. Mrs. Pilkington will be remembered for her joyful Christian witness, delightful stories, and encouraging spirit.

In addition to her husband, other survivors include two daughters, Ann Pilkington Brazeal (Buddy) of Valdosta, and Marcia Pilkington Wise (Randy) of McDonough, Georgia; granddaughters, Laura Brazeal Odell (David) of Valdosta, and Meredith Brazeal Moon (Patrick) of Hahira; great-grandchildren, Evan and Annellisa Odell, and Alaina and Garrett Moon. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Martin Nettles of Sparta, Georgia and Edna Martin Hobbs of Jacksonville, Florida.

Services for Ethel Martin Pilkington will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2011 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Douglas Reddick and Dr. Bill Blanchard officiating. The burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens with Rev. Bob Willis officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Northside Baptist Church mission fund or Samaritan’s Purse.
