Emmett E. (Bud) Goodson

March 10, 1931 — March 18, 2006

Emmett E. (Bud) Goodson, 75, of Cherry Lake, FL. died in Cairo on Saturday, March 18, 2006 following a sudden illness. Born in Barnwell, South Carolina, on March 10, 1931, he was the son of the late Emmett Eugene, Sr. and Florence Willis Goodson. Mr. Goodson had served 9 years with the Georgia National Guard and had worked in the pressroom at the Valdosta Daily Times for 38 years. He was a member of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church. Mr. Goodson had many hobbies which included woodworking and carpentry, playing pool with friends, restoring old vehicles with family members, coaching little league baseball and being a cub scout leader and water sports with family and friends. He greatly loved and was loved by his family and would do anything they asked of him. Affectionately called “Daddy-Daddy” by his grandchildren, he was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Marjorie Marie Goodson of Cherry Lake, Florida; son and daughter in law, Mark and Patti Goodson of Valdosta; grandchildren, Jennifer Henderson (Bernardo) Rodriguez of Oveida, Florida, Melissa Henderson (Nat) Hester of Cairo, Tyler Goodson of Valdosta; great grandchildren, Jazmyne and Alexa Joy Rodriguez of Oveida, Florida, Ray and Kale Hester of Cairo; sisters, Mary Malone of Valdosta, Dorothy Adcox of Atlanta, Marjorie (Andrew) Boggs of New York, New York; sister in law, Pat Becton of Valdosta, brother in law, Dr. Donald McRae of Orlando, Florida, son in law, Barry Henderson of Thomasville; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Goodson was preceded in death by a daughter, Joy Goodson Henderson, and sisters, Ursula McRae and Edith Connell.


Funeral services for Mr. Goodson will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Craig Rikard and Reverend V. L. Daughtery will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
