Elverna (Vern) Griffis Hiers

Elverna (Vern) Griffis Hiers, 80, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at her nephew’s residence following a period of declining health. She was born on May 24, 1940 in Valdosta, Lowndes County Georgia to the late John Owen Griffis and Lota May Stone Griffis. She was a retired seamstress with the Levi Strauss company and was also the long-time breakfast host at the Holiday Inn Express. She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her sister, Alda Griffis Benefield and brother-in-law, Bobby Benefield, Sr. of Valdosta; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, step-children and other family members. She was preceded in death by her husbands, L.C. Taylor and Burnice (Skeeter) Hiers; two brothers, Johnny Lewis Griffis and Nolan M. Griffis.

A graveside service for Vern Hiers will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at the Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Echols County with Elder Dwight Marshall officiating.
