ELMER WILLIAM GUSTAV PIEPLOW, 92, of Valdosta died Thursday, March 29, 2007 at his home. He was born on June 4, 1914 in Elberta, Alabama to the late Charles Frederick and Emma Vollrath Pieplow and had lived in Fairview Park, Ohio before moving to Valdosta in July of 2002. In Ohio he was a Bethel Bible teacher and had been active in teaching Sunday School. He volunteered with the Meals on Wheels Program and served for many years as a devotion leader in nursing homes. The members of Messiah Lutheran Church in Valdosta enjoyed his singing. Mr. Pieplow was a retired dye chemist in the wool and textile manufacturing industry.
Survivors include his three children and their spouses, Rev. Richard and Cyndy Pieplow of Valdosta, Rev. Charles Pieplow and Jill Hoogstra of Birmingham, Ala and Carol Barlass of Janesville, WI., four grandchildren and their spouses, Philip (Libby) Pieplow of Hahira, Andrew (Brandi) Pieplow of Jefferson, GA., David Barlass of Janesville, WI. and Cheryl (David) Farnsworth of Janesville, WI., five great grandchildren, Bailey Pieplow of Hahira, Drew Pieplow and Caden Pieplow both of Jefferson, Brandon Farnsworth and Brady Farnsworth both of Janesville, WI., his sister, Emma Hecht of Denver City, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Meier Pieplow and three brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Monday, April 2, 2007 at the Messiah Lutheran Church with the Rev. Earl Steffens officiating. Burial will be held on Wednesday at the Tracy Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Tracy, Indiana. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6-8pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Hour in care of Messiah Lutheran Church or to Hospice of South Georgia.
