Elizabeth Johnson Smith

Elizabeth Johnson Smith, 84, of Valdosta passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Langdale Hospice House. Mrs. Smith was born on December 19, 1928 in Lexington, Tennessee to the late Jim Henry and Girtha Petty Johnson. While growing up, she spent most of her childhood and received her education in Memphis, Tennessee. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Valdosta First United Methodist Church. She retired as head bookkeeper for Valdosta Insurance Agency and Blanton and Griffin Insurance of Valdosta. Mrs. Smith was a devoted mother to her three sons and family. "Not only was she our mother, but our Best Friend and Mentor". "She was our North, our South, our East and West". Remember her as the person she was, "Do Not Stand At My Grave and Weep For I Am With the Lord".

She is survived by her three sons and daughters in law, Henry Grady (Bubba) Smith and Helen Johnson Smith of Lexington, TN, Gregory Earl Smith and Ruth Watson of Lake Park, Michael Eugene Smith and Tina Garrett Smith of Valdosta, four grandchildren, Blake Colin Smith of Athens, GA, Jade Smith Johnson of Douglasville, GA, Luke and Lee Bailey of Valdosta and five great grandchildren, sisters in law, Betty Moyes Johnson of Bartlett, TN and Dorothy Conway of Valdosta, her friend and caregiver, Ellie Bridges of Valdosta. She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Grady Smith and her brother, James Leroy Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 11am, Friday, July 19, 2013 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Allsbrook officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
