Elizabeth Joann Shealy Brooks

September 20, 1947 — June 12, 2009

Elizabeth Joann Shealy Brooks, 61, of Valdosta died Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Langdale Hospice House. Elizabeth was born on September 20, 1947 in Tifton. She was the daughter of Bonnie Faye Ireland McCaffery of Albany and the late Huel Shealy. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Albany. After graduating from Darton College in Albany, she devoted many years to the nursing profession. She then became a homemaker and truly enjoyed all the pleasures of her family and friends. She took pride in her home, making it a warm and inviting place for others to enjoy. Her greatest accomplishment was the births of her son and daughter. Being a mother was the joy of her life. Her exceptional qualities as a mother set the example to be carried on by her children. Elizabeths inner strength was tested mightily as she began her battle fighting cancer three years ago. She fought with everything she had. She demonstrated to others what a fighter she was.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Dr. R. Ferrell Brooks of Valdosta; her mother, Bonnie McCaffery of Albany; her brother, Larry Shealy of Demorest; daughter and son-in-law, Lauren and Vaughn Stewart of Thomasville; her sons and daughter-in-law, Derek and Yvonne Savelle of Frankfurt, Germany, Brandon Brooks of Valdosta, Fleming Brooks of Jacksonville, FL; and daughter and son-in-law, Lana and Ben Wilson of Smyrna; seven beloved grandchildren, Sarah Stewart, Sophia Stewart, Alina Savelle, Tom Savelle, Baye Wilson, Blythe Wilson and Taylor Brooks. She also leaves behind her devoted canine companion, Billy.

Services will be held at 3 P.M. on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Park Avenue United Methodist Church with Rev. David Tart officiating. Entombment will follow in the Riverview Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday evening at Carson McLane Funeral Home. The family would like to express deepest appreciation to Hospice of South Georgia and especially to Langdale Hospice House for the loving care and support they provided around the clock to Elizabeth and her family members. In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated in Elizabeths name to Hospice of South Georgia.
