Elaine Scruggs

Elaine Scruggs, 69, of Hahira, passed away Thursday, November 27, 2014, at her home.

She was born February 1, 1945 in Dover, England, a daughter of the late Harold and Rose (Fricker) Mason. Being a loving wife and mother she kept her and her family's home in order, organized and running like clockwork. She was very strong and independent, and family was very important to her. Since she was a military wife, she lived in many places, including several places in England, Ohio, Missouri, California, and Germany. During her many moves, Elaine babysat for several children and developed strong bonds with numerous families. She also had a love for animals, helping strays, and sometimes taking them into her home. Mrs. Scruggs was involved with the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary doing crafts.

She is survived by her husband of thirty-nine years, USAF MSGT (Ret.) Eugene Paul Scruggs of Hahira, GA; one son and daughter-in-law, Guy and Sue Compton of Dymchurch, England; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lorraine and Steve Ryba of Murrieta, CA, and Annette and Brian Anderson of Commerce, GA; seven grandchildren, Ross Compton, Amie Compton, Daniel and wife Amanda Ryba, Ashley and husband David Matics, Amanda Ramirez, Heather Anderson and Mary Anderson; five great-grandchildren, Anna, Derek and Devon Ryba, Mikayla Wigley and Oscar Foster; a sister, Valerie Clark of Glasgow, Scotland; and a brother, Melvin Mason and wife Shelaugh of Canterbury, England. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John Michael Finnick on March 14, 1965.

A Celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 6, 2014, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Chaplain Skip VanNus officiating.
