Edwina Hood Burgsteiner, 84, of Valdosta, died at Langdale Hospice House on Monday, October 29, 2007 following a lengthy illness. Born in Valdosta to the late Andrew & Tessie Hotchkiss Hood, she had been a lifelong resident of this area. She opened and operated Azalea City Florist in downtown Valdosta for several years before becoming the office manager and secretary for Valdosta High School which she did for more than 20 years. Mrs. Burgsteiner was a member of First Baptist Church, served as a Pink Lady at South Georgia Medical Center, was a member of the Amaryllis Garden Club, the DAR, General James Jackson Chapter and the UDC Chapter #471.
Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Butch and Jane Burgsteiner of Valdosta; granddaughter and her spouse, Tracy and Marty Jones of Atlanta; great grandchildren, Davis, Dylan, Ella, and Mallory Kate Jones of Atlanta; a sister and brother-in-law, Laquita and Tim Tschetter of Pompano Beach, Florida, sister-in-law, Kathryn Burgsteiner Stevens of Valdosta; aunt, Dot Hotchkiss Moore of Lakeland; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Burgsteiner was preceded in death by her husband, Will Davis “Bill” Burgsteiner and a grandson, Will Burgsteiner.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2007, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Phil West officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to First Baptist Church or to Hospice of South Georgia.
