Douglas Raymond Moxley

April 7, 1942 — October 17, 2015

Douglas Raymond Moxley, 73, of Hahira, passed into eternal peace on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Lakehaven Nursing Home. Born April 7, 1942, "Mr. Doug", as he was affectionately known, grew up in Valdosta and spent different years of his life in Albany, GA, Donalsonville, GA (Lake Seminole), Thomasville, GA and Daytona Beach before returning to Hahira to retire. He retired from Walmart where he was the Manager of Sporting Goods. During his last few years, he enjoyed his time working part time at Academy Sports in Valdosta as the "fishing expert consultant". He was an avid fisherman. He loved to take others fishing, teach kids how to fish and tell fishing stories. One of his favorite times each year while living on Lake Seminole was hosting a fishing tournament for area youth. He was a member and President of the Lake Seminole Lions Club and a volunteer fireman. His favorite time of the year was Christmas. For many years, he lit up his home with thousands of lights and decorations while hosting Santa Claus to greet area residents and deliver gifts to all the children. Mr. Doug lived his life to the fullest. He loved to entertain people and make them laugh. He loved to dance. He loved to play with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. And, he loved to travel with his beloved wife of 36 years, Jackie.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie Moxley; and their children Jeff Moxley and wife Michelle of Pace, FL; Jenny Moxley of Spur, Texas, Tonya Hannah of Gainesville, GA, Bubba Williams and wife Dana of Hahira, GA; Raymonda VanLuven of Havana, FL; and Ricky Atkinson of Vinton, LA; brother David Moxley and wife Sue of Valdosta; daughter-in-law, Kathy Moxley of Houston, DE; son-in-law David Joiner of Hahira, GA; eight grandchildren, Dylan Moxley, Zach Moxley, Shelbi Moxley, Brock Williams, Nikki Wynn and husband Brent, Matthew Joiner and wife Jessica, Tyra Stertvian and husband Mark, and Tay Duran; and six great-grandchildren, Charlea, Tres, Lillie, Harper, Stella, and Knox. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Agnes Moxley; a son, Ray Moxley, a daughter, Perian Joiner; and a grandson, Jake Williams.
