Doris Elaine Powell

Doris Elaine Powell, 68, of Lake Park, GA passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, GA. She was born in Hahira, Ga on June 17, 1946 to the late Russell and Helen Sauls Harrelson and had lived in the Lake Park area most of her life. Mrs. Powell was a retired bookkeeper and upon retiring she became a substitute teacher for Lowndes County Schools which she enjoyed. Doris was active in Primetimers at her church, Azalea City Church of God. She will be remembered for being talented with her arts and crafts, musical instruments, sewing, cooking, and her prized fudge brownies.

Doris is survived by two sons and one daughter, Mike Taylor of Valdosta, Charlie Wayne Taylor (Linda) of Valdosta, Melissa Powell Guess (Bobby) of Pearson, GA; six grandchildren, Cpl. Chuck Taylor (Chandi) of Camp Lejune, NC, L.Cpl. Daniel Taylor also of Camp Lejune, NC, Leslie Taylor of Nashville, GA, Brianna, Kyndall, and Mason Guess all of Pearson, GA; special sister-in-law Gloria Welch (Bill) of Valdosta; one brother, Harry Harrelson of Adel, GA; three sisters, Betty Jean James (Gerald) of Lowndes County, Mary Lou Irvin (Joe) of Valdosta, Linda Kennedy (Chuck) of Kennesaw, GA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Felton Harrelson.

Services for Doris Powell will be held at 3pm on Sunday, November 16, 2014 in the Carson McLane Chapel with Pastor Brett Jarriel officiating. Burial will follow at Wilkes Cemetery at Community Calvary Holiness Church in Cook County.
