Donald Allan Smith, Jr.

Donald Allan Smith, Jr., 74, of Naylor died Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Langdale Hospice House. He was born on August 9, 1944 in Providence, Rhode Island to the late Donald Allan, Sr. and Eleanora Florence Cochrane Smith and had lived in this area for many years. Mr. Smith was a longtime employee of Piggly Wiggly and retired at age 65 from Harvey’s Inc. as Director of Planogramming in Nashville, GA. Mr. Smith was a self-taught aircraft engineer/mechanic who earned his pilots license by age 15. Al was known for his home built experimental acrosport II and the restoration of his piper cub. Both planes were award winning and celebrated across the United States in air shows and aircraft magazines. Al loved performing airshow acrobatics and later in life his hobbies shifted to sporting clays and riding his Harley motorcycle.
Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Renee and Christopher Ames of Cumming, GA, Crystal Dawn Carter and her fiance’ Tim Royals of Lake Park, Jessica Lynn and Justin Worth of Biloxi, MS; his grandchildren, Sydney Ames, Savannah Ames, Elliot Ames, Gracin Carter, Saralyn Avila, Briana Worth and Isabella Worth; his siblings, Sandra L. Olson of Foster, RI., Albert Smith of Colusa, CA., Debra A. Blumhardt of Danville, CA; the mother of his children, Cherre Terry of Lake Park and former son in law, Adam Avila. He was preceded in death by his former mother in law, Doris Stubbefield McClelland.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 from 5-7pm at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. In accordance with Mr. Smith’s wishes he will be cremated.
