Dennis Johnson, USA 1st Sgt. Ret., 69 of Lake Park died on Friday, January 20, 2006 at South Georgia Medical Center. Born on January 28, 1936 in Ousley, he was the son of the late Fred and Margarete Dollar Johnson. A veteran of the United States Army he was on the staff of General William Westmoreland in Vietnam and made combat honor roll for the 25th Infantry for Operation Tropical Lightning. Mr. Johnson was a football coach at Open Bible Christian School from 1979 to 1982 and was a member of New Covenant Church.
Survivors are his wife, Lavina Hair Johnson of Lake Park; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Susan and Dan Yunker of Dasher, Diane and Ron Causby of Albany, and Mary Warren of Lake Park; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sharon Johnson of Twin Lakes, Danny and Trennia Johnson of Lake Park; eleven grandchildren, Jason Yunker, Thomas Yunker, Catherine Sellers, Tony Causby, David Johnson, Jr., Jimmy Johnson, Trey O’Neal, Jeremy Johnson, Cameron Johnson, Kevin Condrey and Megan Warren; three great grandchildren, one sister, Jo Ann Bowers of Cape Carteret, NC; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Carolyn Johnson of St. Mary’s and Jerry and Lillian Johnson of Valdosta; and one aunt, Juanita Johnson Mullis of Valdosta.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Pastor L. A. Joiner and Rev. Wayne Dorsett officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
