David Carl Watkins, Jr.

David Carl Watkins, Jr. 79, of Valdosta died Friday, December 23, 2016 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born in Valdosta on September 22, 1937 to the late David Carl, Sr. and Jimmie Lee Southall Watkins and was a lifelong resident of Valdosta. Mr. Watkins was a Baptist and retired from Norfolk Southern Railway after forty one years of service.
Survivors include his son and daughter in law, D. C., III and Sharen Watkins of Valdosta, daughters and son in law, Carla and Craig Craven of Valdosta, Whitney Watkins of Athens, GA, Ashley Watkins of Gainesville, FL; three grandchildren, Brandi (Gabe) Sirmans, Brantley (Jordan) Ganas, Breanna Ganas, three great grandchildren, Carlee Sirmans, Mason Sirmans, Weston Ganas; two brothers and sisters in law, Billy Jack and Elvy Watkins, Jimmy and Rosemary Watkins all of Valdosta; two sisters and a brother in law, Faye McElvey of Marietta, GA, Nina and Carl Hackworth of Valdosta; a special friend, Doris (Priss) Hynote of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the Redland Baptist Church with Rev. Jay Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Redland Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
