Daniel Lavaughn Hughes, 81, of Lake Park, died on Monday, May 21, 2018 at Lake City Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born on June 7, 1936 in Echols County to the late Carl Claude and Norma Mae Corbett Hughes and has been a lifelong resident of this area. He was a self-employed timber harvester and farmer and was actively involved his community. He had the heart of a servant and extended a helping hand to those in need, including the building of the first Hispanic Church of God in Echols County. He loved and cared for his family deeply and was involved in their lives. His church was his passion and he enjoyed the work that he put into the church to further its ministry in reaching souls for Christ. He was able to accomplish his last dream, with the help of his brother, Lynn Hughes, to build Enoch Creek Church. He began to build the church in July 2016, and no matter how much pain he suffered, he was able to build and complete the church. The first services were held in June of 2017 followed by its dedication in August 2017. He was also able to build and complete the new church outdoor cookhouse in March of 2018. After his work was completed, he became very sick and was ready to leave this earth and join his family and many friends as God called him home.
