D. Max Trantham

D. Max Trantham, 85, of Valdosta, died suddenly, on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born in Jacksonville, Alabama on December 13, 1930, he was the son of the late Elidge and Flora Evans Trantham. Growing up in Jacksonville, he attended Jacksonville Public Schools, where he played basketball and did not miss a single day of school until 11th grade. After high school Mr. Trantham joined the United States Air Force and was soon stationed at Moody Air Force Base. While at Moody he met and married the former Shirley Forrest at Lee Street Baptist Church in 1955. After his Air Force career the Trantham's settled in Valdosta, and he continued to work at Moody AFB in Civil Service for over 30 years. He started and operated Trantham Signs from the late 1970's to the current time. Max was a very kind and generous man who loved all he met. He kept a neat, sharp appearance, and he faithfully gathered with friends to drink coffee and eat a biscuit at Hardees. A devoted fan of Crimson Tide Football and the Valdosta Wildcats, he was also a member of Crossroads Baptist Church.

Survivors are his daughter, Dawn Trantham (April McKaig) of Gainesville; a son, Dane Trantham (KC Bellflower) of Hahira; grandchildren, Nate' Trantham and Rick Williams of Hahira, Jason Trantham of Hahira, Justin Trantham (Brooke Taylor) of Cairo, Andrew Bellflower, Peyton Bellflower of Hahira; great grandchildren, Giselle Williams, Madison Williams, Zoey Williams; brother, Jimmy Trantham (Jean) of Jacksonville, Alabama, sister, Annette Jenkins of Vestavia Hills, Alabama; sisters in law, Betty Zeigler of Tucker, Lou Forrest of Winder, Barbara Largent of Destin, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Trantham was preceded in death by Shirley Forrest Trantham and a sister, Rose.

Dr. Ken Alford will officiate at the funeral services for Mr. Trantham on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00.
