Claud E. Simmons, 79, of Valdosta died Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at his home. He was born on September 7, 1932 in Atlanta to the late Drewry Sylvester and Gracie Crockett Simmons and had lived in Valdosta since 1976. He graduated from Campbell High School in Fairburn and in 1959 graduated from Georgia Tech with a B. S. in Industrial Management. Mr. Simmons was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and a veteran of the United States Air Force having served from 1951-1954 during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Simmons worked for Saunders Truck Leasing for twenty seven years as a branch manager. He had been working for Cameron Hickman at Hickman Transport for eighteen years; a job he thoroughly enjoyed.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta Simmons of Valdosta, one son, Curt Simmons of Valdosta, four grandchildren, Colt Simmons, Sailour Simmons, Dylan Erickson and Brittany Gillis; three sisters, Helen Bradberry of Atlanta, Linda Walker and Lois Ford both of Snellville. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Monroe Simmons, Wesley Simmons, Paul Simmons, Joe Simmons and sisters, Frances Brown and Alice Bradberry.

Funeral services with military honors will be held at 3pm, Saturday, September 10, 2011 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Webb and Rev. Jim Danner officiating.
