Christine Dykes Butler

Christine Dykes Butler 81, of Quitman, passed away August 21 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Brooks County to the late John Lemuel and Missie Dampier Dykes. She was preceded in death by her husbands Crawford Freeman and Jack Butler, and her brothers, John Dykes and Clarence Dykes.

Mrs. Butler has been a faithful member of the Quitman Church of Christ and was presently attending the Welcome Hill Church of Christ. She was a 1946 graduate of Morven High School and had enjoyed seeing many of her classmates at reunions there in the past few years. She was a member of the Hickory Head Homemakers Club and Sewing Stitches where she met many of her closest friends. She made beautiful quilts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Butler is survived by her daughters Brenda (Tony) Hunter of Lake Park, GA, Linda (Allen) Wilson of Montgomery, AL, and Joan Freeman of Quitman, GA, her grandchildren are Patrick Hunter of Lake Park, GA, Lauren (Charles) Kieff of Tallahassee, FL, Blake (Charmain) Hunter of Valdosta, GA, Ashley Day of Quitman, GA and Allen Wilson of Montgomery, AL; very special great-grandchildren, Hunter and Payton Gaskins and Aubree Kieff of Tallahassee, FL, Jacob Wilson of Montgomery, AL and Chloe Hunter of Valdosta, GA – they always brought a smile to “Nana’s” face when they visited.

Funeral services for Mrs. Butler will be held on Wednesday, August 25, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Patterson Street, Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Georgia Christian School.
