Charles Jackson "Jack" Sims

Charles Jackson “Jack” Sims, 72, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at Langdale Hospice House, after a lengthy illness. Born in Valdosta to the late Murray A. & Polly Wisenbaker Sims, he had lived in this area all of his life. Growing up in Valdosta, Jack graduated from Lowndes County High School in 1965 where he played football and ran track. Following high school, he briefly served in the U.S. Air Force. He then returned and attended South Georgia College in Douglas. During his college days, he followed a friend to South Florida and worked in the booming construction industry in West Palm Beach. It was while he was there that he met Deby Phillips and they were married on March 23, 1974. He returned from Florida to help care for his mother and started working construction here in Lowndes County. Over the years his hard work took him from a beginning carpenter to a construction supervisor to owning his own construction businesses, ADM Contractors Inc. and Sims Contracting. He retired in 2014. Jack loved all things outdoors, from taking care of animals to being an avid hunter to fishing. He also enjoyed attending gun shows with his friends. Jack was devoted to his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Deby Phillips Sims of Valdosta; two daughters, Corie Sims Black of Destin, and Tracie Jaclyn Sims of Valdosta; three grandchildren, Kate Blanton Black and Jackson Baylor Black, both of Destin and Caroline Abigail Brennan of Valdosta. Also surviving is a special cousin and her husband, Libby & Dr. Russ Deavors of Lake Park; a sister in law and brother in law, Cathy & Gary Forney and Betty & Larry Tower, all of West Palm Beach, FL; a brother in law, Ron Phillips of West Palm Beach, FL and a brother and sister in law, Brad & Lyndal Sims of Valdosta; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by an aunt & uncle, Ora B. & Paul Carter, an uncle and aunt John M. & Billie Sims, aunt Clarice Yates, and cousin James Bonner.
A memorial service will be held for Jack at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2019 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Jay Watkins will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, P.O.
