Charles Elmo Nichols, Jr.

Charles Elmo Nichols, Jr., 65, of Hahira, died Friday, August 5, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Hahira on August 15, 1945 to Charles Elmo Nichols, Sr. and Janelle Griffis Nichols. Charles worked in Industrial Plant Maintenance at Weyerhauser, was a member of Hahira First Baptist Church and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He loved to play softball and was an Atlanta Braves fan. Charles loved his grandchildren more than anything. He graduated from Hahira High School in 1963. Charles spent hours watching old western movies. He was known for miles around for his gardening skills.

Charles is survived by his wife, Patricia Nichols of Hahira, two sons and daughters in law, Steve and Billie Jo Nichols of Hahira and Darrell and Michelle Nichols of Lake Park, fourteen grandchildren, John, Kyle, Tiffany, Jessica, Charlie Elmo, Emmie Jo, Gaven, Caden, Destiny, Alexis, Katlyn, Madison, Morgan and Makensie, his mother, Janelle G. Nichols of Hahira, two sisters and one brother in law, Lyn Stalvey and Lisa and Dwayne Joyner, one brother and sister in law, Pat and Gail Nichols, all of Hahira, his mother in law, Pauline Dempsey of Pelham, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers in law and sisters in law. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Elmo Nichols, Sr. and his father in law, Jack Dempsey.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 8, 2011 at eleven a. m. in the chapel of the Martin McLane Funeral Home in Hahira with Mr. Curt Norman and Mr. Charlie Merwin officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends from six until eight p. m. Sunday at the funeral home.
