Charles Daniel "Dan" Stevens, Jr.

Charles Daniel "Dan" Stevens, Jr. 61, of Valdosta died Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born in Dayton, Ohio on March 17, 1955 to Charles Daniel Stevens, Sr. and the late Norma Jean Gentry Stevens. Mr. Stevens was a member of the Quitman Church of Christ and a retired teacher/coach with the Thomasville City School System. He was an avid sportsman and family man. His greatest love was being Poppy to his granddaughters. Coach Stevens was known as "Dan the Man" to his family, friends and students. He coached football and tennis in Thomasville and had coached in the Brooks County School System. He was currently coaching with the Valwood School football program.
Survivors include his wife, Terri Jones Stevens of Valdosta; his son and daughter in law, Andrew and Kelly Stevens of Charleston, SC; his daughter, Ashleigh Stevens of Hahira; his two granddaughters, Riley Lynn Stevens and Sadie Rose Stevens; his father, Charles D. Stevens, Sr. of Dayton, Ohio; several aunts, uncles and cousins; brother in law and sister in law, Randy and JoAnne Jones of Hahira; his nephew, Robbie and Beth Jones of Milledgeville; step mother in law, Joyce Jones of Quitman. He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Jean Gentry Stevens; his brother, Timothy Wayne Stevens and his parents in law, E.B. and Doris Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Friday, June 10, 2016 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. J. T. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendship Cemetery in Hahira. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
